昭和元年、初代井上健吉が、井上玩具煙火株式会社の前身である玩具卸しと煙火製造業の井上商店を創業しました。
創業直後の昭和２年には関東大震災が発生。同年には世界大恐慌が始まります。
昭和14年には第二次世界大戦が開戦し、戦時中はもとより、戦後においても花火を製造できない時期がありました。
その後、戦後復興期の昭和25年に火薬類による事故を防止し、公共の安全を確保することを目的とする法律「火薬類取締法」が施行されます。
これを機に昭和27年、井上玩具煙火株式会社を設立し、二代目の井上勝彦が花火を中心とした事業に大きく舵を切りました。
以降、高度経済発展の波にものり、事業を着実に伸ばしていきます。
海外への輸出も盛んでした。安定成長期には中河本社工場が手狭になったことから事業所の拡張を図り、大津工場並びに尾川配送センターを新設しました。
昭和40年頃から安価な中国製の花火が入り込み、流通していた国産の商品は減少。それがバブル崩壊後、デフレとともに円高不況も重なり、弊社にも不況の波が押し寄せてきます。
今や市場の95%以上を中国製品が占めるほど国産花火は大幅に減少し、多くの日本の花火メーカーが姿を消しました。
昭和30年頃から活発化した花火の輸出は、花火製造の安全性を高める目的で火薬取締法の規制が大幅に強化されたため昭和44年をピークに減少し、その後中断していましたが、約35年を経て平成17年に再開しました。
しかし、その間も弊社は一貫して独自の製品開発と国内での生産にこだわり、困難な時期を乗り越えて事業を続けてきました。海外では、弊社の製品は「美しい日本の花火」として好まれています。
現在では、玩具煙火以外の火薬類を取り扱う製品も手掛けております。
お客様のお陰で、規模は小さくも幅の広い仕事を手がける会社に成長することができました。
このように、創業以来90年以上に渡って幾度もの苦難を克服してきた弊社には、有形無形の財産が蓄積されています。
これからも論語の一節「温故知新」の精神で、不朽不滅の魅力をもつ日本の伝統花火を守りながら、自社の歴史と先人の考えをよく学び、そこから新しいプロジェクトに挑むように心がけ、更なる頂を目指して邁進してまいります。

Kenkichi Inoue, the founder of the family business, established Inoue Shouten, which later became Inoue Toy Fireworks Mfg. Co., Ltd., a wholesale shop of toys and a factory of fireworks.
In 1927, just two years after the establishment, the Great Kanto Earthquake occurred. The Great Depression began in the same year.
The Second World War started in 1939. There was a period when the company could not manufacture fireworks, not only during the war but also after the war.
In 1950, during the post-war economic reconstruction, the Explosives Control Law was enforced in Japan to prevent accidents caused by explosives and ensure public safety.
Upon the enforcement of the law, Inoue Toy Fireworks Mfg. Co., Ltd. was established in 1952. The second president at the helm, Katsuhiko Inoue, made a drastic decision to make firework production his primary business focus.
The company achieved steady growth, taking advantage of the rapid economic growth.
Due to its popularity, the company started to export so much that it could only handle some of our business in the Nakagawa Main Factory. Therefore, we established Otsu Factory and Ogawa Despatch Center to expand the business premises.
However, domestic fireworks sales declined with the influx of cheap fireworks from China starting around 1965. The company’s sales began to decline with the bursting of the bubble economy in the early 1990s and the subsequent deflation, coupled with the appreciation of the Yen.
Nowadays, more than 95% of fireworks sold in the Japanese market are Chinese-made, and many Japanese fireworks manufacturers have disappeared because of a severe decline in domestic demand. The firework export business became vibrant around 1955 and peaked in 1969; however, it declined due to the Explosives Control Law, which was rigorously tightened to enhance the safety of firework manufacturing. Although our business abroad had been suspended since 1970, it was resumed in 2005. However, our company has persisted with domestic production and has continually developed unique products even in difficult times. Our products have been appreciated abroad for the unique beauty of Japanese fireworks. Thanks to our loyal customers, even as a small company, it has broadened its business in different fields. The company sells other explosives products besides fireworks.
Although there have been ups and downs, the company has overcome many difficulties in the long history of more than 90 years since its establishment in 1925. We have therefore accumulated both tangible and intangible assets. In the spirit of “reviewing the old and knowing the new,” a line drawn from “The Analects of Confucius,” we endeavor to learn in depth from the company’s rich heritage while preserving the Japanese tradition of fireworks with their timeless charm. With this in mind, we will keep up with the challenge of innovative projects and continue to strive for further excellence.
